About Us

Our Mission:

The RCHL was founded twelve years ago with a single goal to offer safe, fun, competitive 55+ adult hockey to anyone desiring to play.

Our league strives to provide a structure that’s a combination of pickup hockey and competitive hockey. League hockey with referees is competitive, but it invites high sticks, tripping and flagrant play. Pickup hockey without referees reduces the high sticks, tripping  and flagrant play, but it also reduces the competitive nature of the game. In the RCHL the players police themselves. Similar to pickup hockey, when a player falls on the ice, the game stops to ensure the fallen player is OK.

The Retired Canadian Hockey League (RCHL) is a daytime hockey experience for the player who has the time to play during the day. The RCHL wanted  to incorporate the positive attributes of League Hockey and Pick-Up hockey. We are not an organized incorporated hockey league. We have no referees and no league stats are tracked. After the game, players retire for a luncheon to debate which team won the game.

Team Formation:

Our Tuesday morning skate currently consists of  4 drafted teams. Each year our Captains evaluate all  players and rank them accordingly. Players are assigned to teams based on skill level to create four teams of even strength. Teams are reviewed each week to ensure parity. Our Thursday and Friday skates are appropriate for higher skilled players

Our players are over fifty five years of age. They are a mix of entrepreneurs, retired, semi retired, trades and professional workers. Chances are you can find an expert for whatever you need.

Players skills range from former NHL hockey players to former house league hockey players. Players skills are always better at the lunchtime meetings.

Our Current Facility:

Stouffville Arena Complex on 9th Line above Stouffville Side Road. All games and practices are held at this facility
